This is why, when they said they were going to get married, Jasmine was actually defending herself by saying that the law says she could only marry a prince. But the sultan, who was a dimwitted crapface, took her seriously and changed the law.

And this is why, in Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the thieves in the very beginning destroyed the wedding. She paid them to do that. ANd when they captured Aladdin and brought him to the thieve's lair thingy to kill him, Jasmine was intentionally not there to save him. (**Note: she didn't go with him just because it was "best he handled it alone." She didn't go because was too busy having an affair with Genie.**)

But, in the end, that stupid Aladdin worked things out and Jasmine lived miserably ever after.
