I made a personal note to myself... if I'm ever responsible for an animated feature that involves a HUGE piece o' architecture, I'm SO gonna draw out blueprints - or at least some rough plans. |

That sounds quite reasonable. I'm not sure why they didn't. Perhaps they should have done an arquitectural plan and landscape for the Palace, or something. And perhaps made it into a board game. |

Why couldn't they just reuse their palace layouts to prevent from making the same animated mistakes on the palace with the rest of the Aladdin genre? |

That makes sense. The balconies, after all, are gigantic. In the first movie, anyway. In KoT, Jasmine's door shrunk, though. |

I think the balcony actually extends out in both directions. Far as I can tell, you could walk out the left, go right, and enter the throneroom again on the right side of the throne. |

Now that you brought it up, there's the throne room itself. In the first movie, when the Sultan is telling Jafar to discuss sentencing of prisoners, and all that, the balcony is right beside the throne. Then in RoJ, when Jafar is bringing up all that treasure for Abis Mal, it's on the wall to the left of the left the throne. And in KoT, it's on the right. |

I actually managed to get the pool/fountain mess straightened out whilst looking at the back-shot of the palace in RoJ. Near as I can tell, the pool is exactly behind the throneroom, while the fountain is more to the left if you were facing the throne, IE, the east. (The palace faces west.) |

True, the courtyard does change, now that I think about it. In the first movie, outside of Jasmine's balcony is the peacock fountain, later there's no fountain, and in ROJ, there's a pool. Unless Jasmine has more than one bedroom, or something. And I've always thought there were more than one courtyard. This movie is just what gives me my love for fountains. I want loads when I have my own place. And like all the ones I've seen in the movies, too. |

They're rich! They can afford to do weird things with their fountains! |

If anything it will mess you up even more . I'd stick with what you see in the movie and any new room in the series I'd add on to that. That courtyard goes through huge remodeling...unless there is more than one courtyard. |

Moley-snogs. And I thought watching the cartoon series might help me get a better grasp on the palace's layout...
Yeah... I guess I hope for too much sometimes. |

Sometimes it has the peacock design at the top, sometimes the fountain doesn't have anything up there at all.
Sometimes the water that sprays to make their tail is there, sometimes it's just two peacocks randomly up there.
The base changes in depth along with size.
The fountain part in the middle sometimes has the peacock base surrounding it and sometimes it doesn't.
And hell, sometimes the entire courtyard holding the fountain is different |

Wow. Somehow, someway, I feel a total and complete lack of any surprise whatsoever over that factoid. |

The design of her fountain changed in just about every episode |

"Budget cuts" is probably right. The animators probably didn't want to be bothered with drawing the fountain. And given the quality of the artwork, it's probably be more annoying and distracting in the background than anything. |
