It would feel like he didn't earn it. He even said it

Aladdin: Those riches belong to the Sultan! I have to make my own!
Oh, Here's a similiar discussion that we talked about. Yeah, it was awhile back.

But if there was a dowry, it would be Aladdin's, because he would be Jasmine's husband. He would be, like, the one managing it and everything, right?

Not sure if there's a dowry, but that would still have come from the sultan, so Al would still feel like he was leaching off of them...

But the money, and everything would actually be Aladdin's, if it like, came with Jasmine's dowry, wouldn't it? Anyone know if Arab women have to have dowries to get married?

That's a good question. I've wondered about that, too.

Even just the growth over the course of that episode..."Some things are worth more than treasure."
I love Aladdin because (among other reasons), he stumbles and falls a few times , sometimes into the same traps, along the way to getting what he wants. Treasure hunting, getting caught in lies, etc. He's figured out that he needs to be himself, but that's easier said than done, especially since I don't think he's really sure of who he is. Watching Aladdin at 2 AM does things to the way you see things. When Jasmine demanded "Who ARE you?" after AWNW, it struck me as being a LOT more of a deep question than I'd really thought of it before.
Oh goodness, I love him.

I don't know how many of you here watch Contra Viento y Marea, however, Natalia's father, Ernesto Rios aka Leon Marino, always puts me in mind of Cassim. I feel sorry for her. It seems that instead of supporting her, because she loves Sebastian, he's going to pressure her into marrying Eduardo, so he can have more money.

that was the episode where I did that monetary factor thread. Issues about money seems to come up in the episode series.

And which is why so many people are like "OMG THEY ACT SO DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINAL!" when they see KOT....ya think? There's a whole series of characterization in-between those two movies

That's what I love about the time we get to King of Thieves... scenes like this one show exactly how much he's grown over the course of the series!

He wasn't being ruthless. He was just being a little more open about his fears of the future than normal. He wanted to be able to provide for Jasmine (because all he could afford was a bag of rice
) on his own; Not to have to use the sultan's money (which is pretty much Jasmine's money) to get her stuff.
For a while he kept choosing money and Jasmine went along with it because she saw how much he really wanted to do this, but after she got pissed at him, he got his head on straight and stopped worrying so much about money and remembered what was really important, which is Jasmine. Yeah, Cassim didn't go through any of that AT ALL
He doesn't have to buy me anything. All he has to do is let me hold him forever

I always think a lot about Cassim in that ep because of Aladdin. I need to find my Cassim/Aladdin comparison list I made during math class last semester. No wonder why I always got C's in that class

Watching "Raiders of the Lost Shark" after spending a whole day outlining a Cassim fic can make you see some interesting parallels...
Raiders of the Lost Shark wrote:
Jasmine: If the Beast is moving south then Agrabah is safe! We can go home!
Aladdin: But Jasmine, the treasure!
Jasmine: My father has enough for us.
Aladdin: Those riches belong to the Sultan! I have to make my own!
Murk: What is it to be, boy? The girl or the gold?
Aladdin: (thinks for a moment) I don't have to choose! Just one more day, Jasmine. Maybe two.
Murk: Twenty years at most.
It's scary.
