It premiered in December 1937; I'm sorry to say I don't know the exact date, but I'm pretty sure it was twenty-something. i believe 'twas at the Carthay Circle Theatre in California where Steamboat Willie had premiered on November 18, 1928. :) /wannabe Disney Historian
this sort od relates here, since people have mentioned how they didn't like snow, cause she seemd weak.
well disney evolved a lot along with the world when it came to women wanting to be more than just housewives, so it went from delicate and submissive to kick butt and spunky, but i adore how even though those princesses were delicate, like snow, they still had a charm.

That seems to be the general concensus, and when you compare Jasmine's mind to the Sultan's mind, it's quite plausible.
It would've been nice if they'd mentioned it. Something to the effect of:
Iago: Y'know, I don't know why you keep up this fighting with the princess. Maybe you should just hypnotize her-
Jafar: The princess's mind is too strong to be controlled.
I'd say maybe they cut out the scene for time, but then we'd likely have seen it on the DVD. It sure would benefit those who can't figure it out, though.

This question reminds me of one of mine. Instead of hypnotizing the Sultan into making Jasmine marry him, why doesn't Jafar just hypnotize Jasmine into WANTING to marry him? He could probably do it, so why doesn't he?
Maybe because she's more strong-minded.
I knew I wasn't the only one who understood that.

Well, let's see...
The Sultan has a tendency to be absent-minded. Now, that's not to say he's stupid, he's just kind of spacy. I think Jasmine is more strong-willed, and we all know she can be stubborn, so I don't think the snake staff would work on her in quite the same way. Not to mention the snake staff controls your mind, not your heart, and I don't think the Sultan was under Jafar's complete control, and Jasmine would have to be under his control long enough to go through the marriage and make things look convincing before Jafar offed her and her father.
Besides that, before Jafar brought the "rule" to the Sultan's attention, Jasmine was supposed to marry a prince, so it was necessary for Jafar to go through the Sultan, since he is the Sultan afterall, and even Jasmine must obey his orders.

Yep, Iago is part of a tribal religion where he is God and everyone bows to the parrot and serves him grapes.
I know, bad me. -a la Emperor Kuzco- I'm a bad Catholic. One of my friends at school showers me with Holy Water every day. Why he carries a bottle of Holy Water in his backpack... I don't know...
Hey, I wouldn't mind following THAT religion.
Actually, I'd rather serve Eden grapes....

So, Iago is some denomination of Christian?

Probably... being a South American parrot, Catholic.
Well, he does say "jeez"!
And of course it is probably set before the new world was discovered, so there was not a Catholic to be found in South America.
So, Iago follows some tribal religion then?
Seeing as the movies and TV episodes were made in the 1990s, Iago can be whatever religeon you want him to be. Maybe the writer wasn't thinking religeon, but everybody knows the Lord's Prayer. So, whatever. I think he's a Methodist.
