I think that's just Kocoum being Kocoum. Like if it was Poc's father was the one who caught them kissing, I don't think he would've attacked. He probably would just say something like, "you have shamed your father!"
And I don't know how Poc would react if she caught her friend (I forget her name) kissing one of the settlers.

I thought that was why he attacked him at first, too. But now that you bring that up, were they really engaged?

Probably. He has that whole protective-of-something-that-isn't-his vibe going on
. It's just then, it would have been personal.

Post subject: marriage in pocahontas
In Pocahontas, Pocahontas' father tells her that it would make him happy if she married Kocoum. Does this mean that she is officially engaged to him? Or was he waiting to see what Pocahotnas wanted first? Because in the song Jartrb, she is obviously trying to decide if she wants to marry Kocoum. Does that mean that she had a choice and was thinking about it? I'm not sure how things are done in her culture but I don't think her father would ever force her to do something that would make her unhappy anyway.
