Yeah it's confusing. I remeber reading them saying the idea was he wouldn't be bound to the ship as Elizabeth remained faithful for the 10 years. But then an FAQ insert with the DVD in the UK said he was still bound to the ship and could only come ashore one day every 10 years. I guess it's like Jack's compass. They never exactly said one way or another where it led in the first film so they could change it in the second. Same with this, they can go either way if they re-visit the characters if they do a 4th movie (lot of ifs!)
I think there was a T&T interview or post at their site mentioning that they'd intended to specify that her fidelity could free Will from his service to the Dutchman (and that Davy Jones' resentment toward Calypso stemmed from the fact that she was NOT faithfully awaiting his return after 10 years, dooming him to an eternity), but I don't remember details indicating whether or not they decided to do away with that idea or if it just didn't make it into the final version of the movie, if they want it to read as 'he's free after 10 years because she was faithful' or if we're suppose to assume that, just like before, he only gets one day ashore. I've heard that the DVD doesn't offer any clarification one way or the other, so as the movie stands on its own, it appears that Will is indeed still bound to the Dutchman.

Post subject: Cut scene from PotC3?
I've heard from various sources that there is a cut scene from PotC3 that explains that Will won't be bound to the Flying Dutchman for eternity, but rather for ten years if Elizabeth remains loyal to him.
Does this scene exist, or is it a hybrid of fan speculation and a misinterpretation of the after-the-credits scene?
