I couldn`t help feeling disappointed, while viewing the princesses new look. They are decked out in jewel covered outfits. Almost every piece of merchandise has the girls dressed this way. I guess we have the influence of tween pop star Hannah Montana and High school musical to thank for this. The Disney girls look like a story book version of the rich and snooty Sharpay (sp). She`s the self proclaimed starlet in High school musical. It`s like Disney has taken a step backward and destroyed what took years to create : A thoughtful wise and independent girl/princess who cares about other things besides gowns, balls and princes. Thankfully Mulan hasn`t been too tainted by the influence of pop culture`s glamor girls. Though not a princess, she is still added into the Princess collection. The next thing you know, there will be a Pop star trio of Ariel , Belle and Jasmine . I shutter at the thought of the Disney channel`s Cheetah Girls. As far as Disney goes these days being superficial and self absorbed seems to be the new trend.
I've thought about doing that with my Jasmine dolls. Show the first one they released and then the latest one. The difference is dramatic.

Thanks for the link , Syera. That`s the look I was talking about. I haven`t been following the Disney Princess franchise as closely as I used to. So that`s why I was shocked by the change. I knew the girls were always captured in silly pop star poses , but I didn`t know their costumes had a drastic make over. Maybe we could make a visual time line of the princesses tragic descent . So we could remember the way they used to be.

They actually did do something like that, but it was with Belle, Ariel and Aurora inspired dolls, I think
But I JUST had this conversation elsewhere over how gaudy the girls' outfits are getting. They were getting ridiculous long before Hannnah Montana, though. The line in general is a rant in itself
