Well yeah, perfect people make boring un-filthy rich movies!

And here's one that never ceases to kill me off - the Wise Sage tells the Hero "don't touch the golden bird!" or "don't take the enchanted apple!" So what does Mr. Hero do? *Touch touch* *Klaxon goes off* Oooops!
I don't like it when they're too good. Aladdin in the Disney movie is perfect. He's a theif, but he only steals to eat, he's not perfect, he lied to Jasmine, etc., but he's not evil, either.

Trudat. I was just speaking generally.
Even sweet little Hansel and Gretel baked a witch for dinner.

In many original folktales, the hero or heroine does bad things and aren't nice people. Actually, in every account of Aladdin I've read (three, now four,) I never liked him. The only "nice" Aladdin WAS in the Disney version.

That stands true for many parents. They want you to follow up in their success than for the children to follow their dreams. Because they want you to be financially secure in the future.

Aladdin was lazy in the original
I mean, he was still a little trouble maker, but he just wanted to lounge around while his father went to work at the business and his mom took car of the house/cooking/cleaning. He wanted to make his mother proud, but he didn't want to take over the shop because he just wasn't interested in all that. I can see why

In the original pitch, Aladdin was a lazy little bum, but inside he
did
want to please his mother. I don't think they ever went into any detail about his father, though.

Yeah, I can see Al as maybe a little rebelious, but not like that, giving his parents trouble, and not caring about his mother.

What, as a good-fer-nothin' brat? Yeaaaaaaah, I think I can see your POV. Disney probably had the same thoughts in mind when they made Aladdin.
Little twerp turned out all right in the end, though. Why, he got ambitious enough to go leading an army!

I've read that one before. I don't like the way it portays Aladdin at the beginning.

Yeah, he disguses himself as Fatima(h) the medicine woman so he can get into Aladdin's house and kill him for killing his brother, just as Mozenrath turns into Jasmine so he can kidnap Aladdin and use his body

"The African magician had a younger brother, who was equally
skilful as a necromancer, and even surpassed him in villany and
pernicious designs. As they did not live together, or in the same
city, but oftentimes when one was in the east, the other was in
the west, they failed not every year to inform themselves, by
their art, each where the other resided, and whether they stood
in need of one another's assistance."
A necromancer, eh? Sounds familiar.
Later, he disguises as a woman. A WOMAN!
Hey, how many Aladdin villains do you know who are necromancers more or less and could disguise as a woman if the mood struck?
That's right. "Jafar Jr."
Really makes you wonder if that's where they partially got the idea for Mozenrath.

Post subject: The Story of Alla ad Deen
This has got to be THE most detailed version of the story of Aladdin I have EVER found. Note that in this version, his name is rendered Alla ad Deen.
Enjoy. This one's a beauty.
