According to imdb and comingsoon.net, there is a sequel to "Enchanted" in the making. |
*facedesk facedesk facedesk*
They apparently want to have it out in the next year or so with a new director, new writer, and no cast committed yet. It just screams bad idea to me in every way.
At the same time, I plan to see this. If it's good, fantastic. If it's bad, I will snark the heck out of it. |

As is usually the norm for sequels, I'm not sure if I like the idea or not. I prefer original stories and characters and to not run the risk of blemishing something that is great as it is.
But I loved the original (just watched it tonight actually), so I will be pleased if the sequel lives up to it. |

Am I hallucinating from too much caffiene, or is Disney returning to its traditional, cel animation?! Thank god! I was worried that this beautiful art form was disappearing forever, if the company that employed some of the most skilled cel animators in the world was no longer using them. I'm a huge fan of cel animation, and it's amazing what can be accomplished by a person with a pencil... (and several hundred other people, but who's counting?) |
I know! IMO, it is much better than the stuff they do with computer. That looks more like a video game, or something. |

Apparently "addy" names are stereotypical to blacks? I don't know. I guess I'm not ethnic enough to really talk on where that's coming from |

From what I've heard, Maddy sounded too close to "Mammy" or "Nappy", so it changed to Tiana, but I haven't heard the 'frog' complaint coming out of this movie ever, so that's new. I've heard of it being used as an insult to blacks before (For this last Christmas, my aunt thought it would be cute to get my mom frog slippers because they all use to call her that as a kid ), but I don't know what people are thinking from the first two complaints that her name is close to mammy and nappy. It's also close to daddy, but I see no one claiming she looks masculine or some craziness like that .
I think this is just the media trying to pick the movie apart before it's even out |
I've never really considered it a stereotypical Black name. I've had a character named Maddy and she was white. I've always thought of it as short for Madeleine. |

That, and paranoid individuals looking to find racism that isn't even there. |

From TVTropes...

-Most recently, the upcoming The Princess And The Frog movie has some polarized opinions about how appropriate it was to name their first African American princess "Maddie" and have her work as a chambermaid, vs. why was it considered inappropriate as both Cinderella and Snow White did scullery maid work. Disney renamed the main character Tiana.
----Even the movie's title was changed from "The Frog Princess" due to a strange complaint from a single editorial that "frog" was a racial slur against black women. |
Shiera, if you'll enlighten the uneducated, what's up with the name "Maddie?" |

I've never heard that one before, but I know "frog" is a derogatory term for the French, and if the setting of the movie is based on New Orleans... |

Oh, hey, word has it that The Princess & The Frog was going to be called The Frog Princess at first, but people complained because "frog" is apparently a derogatory term for a black person. |

Hey, we've got new traditional animated features. A few sound iffy, but I'm betting they're a case of better than it sounds. Summaries can be so misleading.
Either way, we will not be short animated films of either type in the next few years. Woot! |

"King of the Elves" has potential. I read it once and it would be interesting if for once they have an older man in the role of the hero. |
