I love Glen Keane dearly <3 Disney doesn't deserve him. They didn't have faith in his original vision of Rapunzel/Tangled.

I actually find this to be really exciting news because it will make way more other animators to take over and nothing but good can come from that. I mean, Glen was working under the remaining few of The Nine Old Men himself when he got started at Disney and their "era" had already passed, so progress and passing that torch is good.

I love Glen dearly and will support him no matter where he goes. The Disney Era he helped ushered in has been over for a long, long time no matter how many attempts Disney has made to try and recapture it, so I don't really see his retirement as marking the end of it, especially since Mr. Deja (as a consultant), Mr. Henn, etc. are still there. They're just as responsible for the heroines and villains we love today as Glen is with our favorite heroes. When all the guys that worked on the Renaissance films leave completely, THEN we can talk about an era ending

I hate to post bad news but given Glen Keane's importance to Disney Animation over the last 38 years, especially during the late 80s/early 90s renaissance (and in particular to Aladdin) I felt this deserved a thread.

Last Friday, after 38 years at Disney Animation, Glen Keane resigned with the following letter;

During his time at Disney Glen was responsible for bringing to life many of my (and I'm sure your) childhood heroes and heroines; Ariel, Beast, Pocahontas, Tarzan, and of course Aladdin. You only have to watch the original pencil animation of the Beast's transformation to see that Glen is a master of his craft, and his talent will be sorely missed at Disney Animation.

I wish Glen all the best in his future endeavours and look forward to see what he does next, but at the same time I can't help but feel that this is, in many ways, the end of an era at Disney, much in the way it was when the last of Walt Disney's 9 Old Men retired. I only hope that his successors, those he helped train whilst at Disney, are able to live up to legacy left by Glen and his peers in the same way they peers lived up to the legacy of the 9 Old Men.
