I saw an advertisment for the movie "Enchanted" and it had a scene from "Aladdin" _________________ "You know I just realized we're short a doctor and a med student"

...what scene? Cause I just saw that movie and there were no Aladdin references. MAYBE some if you squint, but you'd be stretching it |

The first trailer I saw for the movie showed Genie emerging from the lamp (along with Tarzan at the end of 'Son of Man,' Belle looking inquisitively at the painting of the Prince, the objects on the balcony as Beast dies, fireworks from the BatB transformation scene, and sorcerer Mickey in Fantasia), if I recall correctly. I think that's what rn was talking about |

Perhaps I'm getting cynical in my old age, but I'm feeling an incredible surge of "And? But? So? Therefore?" coursing through my veins.
It's not exactly the first time they've used clips from other movies to advertise a new one.
Now, if they did something on the caliber of the Lilo & Stitch ads, then I might get excited. _________________

Ah, yes. That trailer. I saw that one a while back, and it was sort of their way of saying Enchanted is following that tradition before transitioning into the live action.
I'm surprised no one has said anything about it. I liked it alot. The animation we had was beautiful, like it was from an Art Noveau storybook. The characters were endearing and funny without being grating, which I feared they would be. Songs were pretty good, but not exactly the classics Menken has done in the past. It was a very enjoyable film, and more satisfying than most films I've seen recently. I may go see it again, and I don't do repeat theater viewings that often. _________________ "Hey! I want to see that.
Has anybody went to the website? They have this "Make Yourself a Disney Character" thing. I'd tried that with the "Simpsons" one, but it didn't turn out right. _________________

I want to see it, but I have a terrible fear that it's going to feel like The 10th Kingdom with none of the charm.
But that could just be my perfectly normal paranoia surfacing again. _________________

It's nothing like The 10th Kingdom, it doesn't explore the complexities of the original fairy tales. This is more an homage/parody of their Disney animated films. If you go in with that in mind, you won't be disappointed. It is predictable, but in a way that's the charm of it. _________________ "Hey! I'm absolutely in love with this movie. I already fangirl Edward.
But, yeah, the lack of Aladdin references is fail. _________________ "This cow's been covered with flour!" |

You know, that's probably more or less why I'm not blown away by this movie at all . I saw everything coming and nothing was new to me. It was cute and I liked it, but I'm almost tired of them playing it safe with their films now . I KNOW Disney is capable of making cute, happy feel good films like this; that's why I love them, but when are we gonna go back to trying NEW things? NEW types of stories? Pixar has the right idea! All Enchanted felt like to me was "Man, remember when Disney movies use to open like this and there was animation like this and there were songs/song sequences that was sorta like this and then these two people had all these scenes building up to their relationship like this and they had a huge memorable love scene like this and shit hit the fan because the villain broke it up like this and then it was solved like this and then they lived happily ever after like this? Weren't those stories great, guys? Let's give them a big round of applause, Disney geeks ". Ok, I did...so is that it?
Again, it's a cute film and all, but I'm waiting for Disney to stop recyling their movies and characters/character ideals, and remember the cute quote they put at the end of Meet the Robinsons--"We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things." |

AG: Yes, I totally agree. I want new stuff, but I also liked this one for what it is. They told the story well, entertaining me even when I knew what was coming. I'll have to wait a little longer for the fresher stuff, is all.

Hmm... I can kinda see both sides o' the story here. On the one hand, having the good old-fashioned stuff is fun for nostalgia's sake, but on the other hand... well, I like to be surprised! So few movies can do that.
I do want to see it, but from the sound of it, its formulaic layout will make it a flitty fantasy that will soon be forgotten.
On the other hand, it'll be fun seeing 'em lampshade the silliness of animated movies. SOMEBODY had to! _________________
