As an African-American, TFP doesn't sound racist to me. Even Tiana being a chambermaid early on didn't bug me. Truth be told, I think that actually made more sense then the whole princess thing (unless this movie is supposed to occur in an alternate America or something along those lines).

To be honest however, I'm hoping that the prince won't turn out to be white -- I certainly have nothing whatsoever against interracial couplings, but if there's a black princess, then why not a black or creole prince as well?

I've been reading that alot on comments on youtube about the movie being racist. I don't see anything wrong with that either. Have you guys seen the trailer already? Its so hilarious.

He's gonna be Middle Eastern, so Aladdin will have company Laughing

Although, I think the black/white dynamic would have been interesting to see play out

Middle Eastern? Really? Was this stated somewhere? *is curious*

Yes, I certainly can see the appeal of a black/white dynamic, but man, can you imagine all the complaints Disney would recieve from the backwards racists? I remember when there was an interracial kiss on the Justice League cartoon and pple complained. Rolling Eyes

"The London Independent reports that Disney has now made the prince in the story a man of Middle Eastern heritage"

http://showbizdata.com/news/47378/IFROGI-BITES-DISNEY

The way I see it, they're gonna get yelled at regardless like they have been since they declared they were making an African Princess, so they might as well do what they want Laughing

that's the thing. People who make such "remarks" are being small minded themselves. They shouldn't make a comments like that. Unless they know the whole story. Don't they understand the philosphy of Walt and the ideas that Disney creates? If you ever noticed that there's a different animation style in each 2D animated film. They wanted to bring the art, the culture, the music of New Orleans. That goes the same for every other "ethnic" character that Disney ever created. Its introducing people about different cultures and fairy tales. Walt wanted people to run to the library and look up these characters.

Arg, it seems no one wants to be happy and have something to talk about.

Oh Oh here the trailer

AND IT THINK ITS CUTE AND FUNNY AND WITTY!

Oh yeah! Super excited for this one! Especially with all those animators we know and love coming back. Very Happy

I don't understand how her being a chambermaid early on was bad. I mean, nobody minded that Cinderella was one. More importantly if these people looked at a history book they'd know it'd be more authentic for the story.

Boggles the mind it does, and considering this is a Disney movie we know she'll have a happy ending at the end after all the trials and tribulations. Rolling Eyes

Because people want the truth, but not too much of it Laughing

They want Disney to tell things accurately, but I don't think they understand what that means. They want historically accurate movies, but just from Disney. They don't want that from any other movie maker in Hollywood that takes liberties. Just Disney.

Geez, I know the truth hurts but come on! Confused Ha, makes ya yearn for the days when people didn't see everything with double meanings.

I'm pretty sure pple were bothered by the chambermaid thing specifically because Tiana is black (as opposed to Cinderella), and to some, that harkens back to the days of slavery. Honestly, I can undertsand why pple are worried, but I think Disney is smart enough not to step on any toes. Perhaps an early screening with a test audience to avail any fears is in order.

And not to start an argument here, but I've seen pple get offended at other film companies and directors aside from Disney for believing that their movies were culturally insensitive or whatever.

Hmm, so Naveen's Middle Eastern. Interesting...

Yeah, you're right but I thought people would get over all that by now. Anywho, this will surely be interesting. Wonder how the story will go 'cause I don't know how a Middle Eastern man could end up in Orleans. Laughing

I'm ecstatic for the music in this movie! Very Happy

*spit take* What? I mean, that's really cool that they're doing that, but it'll just open them up to more criticism... Sad

What, you mean slavery? No, it's still an issue that has a (very understandable) lingering psychological effect on the black community even to this day.

But yeah, I like the trailer.
