Oh! how I miss you guys. Just dropping to say hello! Coming 2009 "Frog Princess" debuts, after all those CG movies, Disney has finally decided to go back to animation! Of course, the story is going to take place in New Orleans. They're going to feature a black princess.

Don't believe me here's the link.
http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/va/20070308/117340755900.html

and they said that Aladdin was the first ethinical movie that disney has done and Pocohontas and then Mulan.

But I am glad that Disney has finally gone back to 2D because there's alot of appreciation and grattidude in artwork that has done by human hands that computer generated can't do or capture. Plus, Laughing it gives animators
their jobs back.

I know. The Disney films that I grew up with, Were animation and the soundtrack was so awesome. I would always be the princess when she sings her ballads. Well I hope, they would go back to musicals than have music artists take over to compose. Wait.. I do like Tarzan soundtrack... was done by Phill Collins. The last animated musical is ummm was it "Home on the Range?"

I was listening to a radio station not to long ago and they were talking about animators losing their jobs because of CG. It sad because the desks in the animination studios in Florida were empty due to lay offs.
Most of the hand drawn disney animation or should we say the Sequels were done in Australia just to save money for the company.

For those who're interested, scroll down to the last post on this page to see some early sketches of the movie. There's probably an English site with them as well, but right now I'm too lazy to look.

oooh, that looks lovely! Although, I wonder how she's a princess...and in New Orleans? Like, I don't know how that works, but either way I can't wait to find out!

I wonder who's going to be the voice of her. I wouldn't be surprised if they asked Beyonce. She already did some Dream promos for Disney and after she is the most requested person in the entertainment category.

What do you guys think? Have any ideas of any other actresses?

Oooh! Nice! Those are lovely designs.

As for voices, I hope they go the route they did with TLM and BatB, that is go for stage performers versus movie stars. I can easily picture someone with the power of Heather Headley doing Maddy (but maybe not Headley, it depends on the nature of her speaking voice and the approach to the character).

Great news!

Actually, I read on wikipedia that Anika Noni Rose, from Dreamgirls, will be doing her voice. Not sure if it's both speaking and singing, but I know she's at least doing the singing. I'm SUPER excited, because I'm a Dreamgirls freak and love, love,LOVE her voice. Smile

Yes! I'm super excited about Disney's return to traditional animation too, and so far this one seems to be showing some potential. Wink The sketches are really nice, although I'm also curious just how she's a princess, but I guess we'll find out in time.

I'm happy about "Enchanted", too; the animation scenes for it look really good...plus it just looks so funny. Comedy wins for me. Laughing Although I also must note that I miss the days when animated movies had more of an even mixture of emotions. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the pattern in humorous CGI films. Rolling Eyes

Thanks for posting those links though, looking forward to this one. I had heard a rumor a few months ago that Disney was planning an animated movie (forget if it was CGI or hand drawn) about the wolves from Yellowstone park. I've yet to find any further information on it, so as it stands I'll have to assume a rumor is all it was...however I would love to see such a film. Who knows.

Janette and I watched the trailer for Enchanted a few days ago. One of the first things J asked was "why do all magical portals lead to New York?"

Why, indeed?

I do want to see Enchanted (if only for Patrick Dempsey, heheh), but I'm a tad concerned it'll feel too The 10th Kingdom-ish.

This is just too awesome. I'm excited to learn that there will finally be a black princess (tho how in the heck that'll work in 1930s New Orleans I have no idea). I showed my sister the movie's website the other day, and she said that Tiana is hot. Very Happy

I'm betting The Frog Princess will be good, since Ron Musker and John Clement are behind the wheel (not sure about the singing alligator and firefly tho, but I'll reserve my final judgement once TFP comes out), and I've enjoyed all their work so far. And I'm SO happy to see that it'll be in good ol' 2-D animation!

Yeah I've been excited about this for months!!

I'm just a bit annoyed with all the people trying to find fault with it and call it racist.
