Just wanted to say that I think it's kind of funny that you're complaining about Kim Possible but like the Aladdin and Hercules series', since a lot of the same people worked on all three. Laughing

I actually like Kim Possible. Drakken is so an ancestor of Abis Mal and Shego with Haroud Laughing

It's when they add the omg-kim-n-ron-luv-each-otha!!1 plot that I refuse to watch.

Yeah, I like Kim Possible too.

And refused to watch it for the same reason AG did.

At first I read that as "the ancestor of Abis Mal and Haroud" and was wondering how the hell that was possible. Laughing

I only saw Raven in Princess Diaries 2 and I liked her well enough.

The costume she wore at the beginning of the film, however, immediately called to my geeky little mind Star Trek's Guianan. So... Raven = Mini-Guinan!

Well then you should enjoy her because she plays "the black friend" in EVERYTHING she does Laughing

...who is this Guianan?

Yes. For one thing, I hate it when they do movies on computer. I like the old animation much better. It was more..well, I just like it more it's more Disney.

Y'know, it's not so much the medium as the quality of the story. To quote Tim Burton:

"It is unfortunate that Disney closed down its drawn-animation unit. I find it quite upsetting, because they made a few drawn movies that weren't successful and they went, `Well, that is dead, so we have to go to computers.' They forget that the reason that they have been successful is because Pixar [whose films Disney distributes] makes good movies. Success is the real reason people try to copy things in Hollywood. Someday someone will do a beautiful cell- animation film that connects with people and then someone will say, `We have to go and do that again.' The number-one priority should be that the story and the medium are compatible."

Exactly; a lot of the stories suck and just because it's 3-D doesn't make the plot super awesome.

True, the people at Pixar are more into telling the story instead of just doing it for the money. You can tell when a movie is made for the wrong reasons when they overuse pop references and fart jokes. I exclude the Shrek movies because they actually had good storylines to back up the visual and make up for above.

Exactly, Nez! A good movie might carry a few pop-culture references, but it doesn't rely on them.

Myself, I've of the opinion that the less pop-culture references, the better. In a few years they'll feel horribly dated, and as time goes on, more and more people just won't get them.

When making references, I think the writers need to ask themselves...
-Is it germane to the situation?
-If the referenced material didn't exist at all, would this line/action still make sense?

One of the best references I've seen was the Batman reference in Mulan. It's obvious if you know what it is, but if you don't, it's not going to leave to scratching your head and asking yourself what the heck was up with that.
