Mmm... yes, I was happy to get my copy too. So much love for it.

I also made the mistake of getting the special edition soundtrack. *ews at the second disk*

I love TLM! But I have no money, so I can't get the new DVD. TLM was my favorite Disney movie before I saw Aladdin. Supposedly I used to watch it every day after I came home from kindergarten, but I still think my mom is exaggerating. I'm not as big on TLM now as I used to be, because of Aladdin and The Emperor's New Groove being my new favorite Disney movies, but I still love it. I still know almost all the words to Under the Sea and Poor Unfortunate Souls.

What's on that atrocity? Just that horrible remake of Kiss the Girl?

By 'horrible remake' do you mean this piece of awfulosity?

They should totally ban pop groups from doing that to these songs.

I bought the DVD too. Very Happy

I don't have a sony TV but I have a Sony DVD player. That means I can't use my Sony remote to control the menu, which means I can't see all the extras that I want. I was able to see the KTG video and the 'making of' interviews. But I can't see anything else. Sad

I've waiting for someone to start a thread since the DVD came out! Very Happy I haven't gotten it yet, because I'm saving it for my Christmas list.

I actually think this is the first Disney movie I ever saw in theatres. While it isn't my favorite movie, it's still pretty good. Personally, I was fine with the fact that they didn't follow the original Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale. Could you imagine the backlash that would have happened if Ariel died at the end? Disney barely got away with killing Bambi's mom and Mufasa. LOL!

Eric's no Aladdin, but you've gotta admit, he IS pretty cute. I liked the fact that you wouldn't have been able to tell he was royalty just by looking at him; he wore plain clothes most of the time and he was pretty good-natured. Plus, he loved his dog to the point where he was willing to rescue him from a burning ship at the risk of drowning! I think that one of the real reasons she saved Eric was because she was touched by that act...not just because he was smitten with him...

Is weird that I thought the scene when she's washed ashore with him after the storm is...um... well, like I said in one of my other posts, it's kind of hot when the guy is hurt and needs to be rescued. Embarassed

*clears throat* Anyway, he and Ariel had their romantic moments. During the "Kiss the Girl" sequence, it was funny how he was so shy, and she was all, "Pucker up and kiss me already!" He was quite the gentleman. Smile

Yeah, I know it may seem like another "love at first sight" quickie romance. But as someone mentioned in another post, no one really knows how much time REALLY passes between the big kiss and the wedding/happy ending sequence. I'm sure he and Ariel had a lot to talk about...

Got the DVD. Though not as in-depth as the Aladdin one, it does feature John Waters in an interview.

Oh, and "The Little Match Girl" short is gorgeous but very sad. Both times I've seen it, I cried. Why didn't this get featured in "Fantasia: 2000", apart from this being more recent?

I loved that too! I also felt a little bad, because poor Eric has no friends. Laughing The closest friend he has is Grimsby and Grimsby doesn't know him well enough to know that Eric hates to see himself as a pompous, overglorified statue.

::huggles Eric::

Moments I love:

Eric's face when he thinks Ariel is about to drive him into an early grave when she controls the horse like a madman.

Eric's face when Ariel combs her hair with the fork. Then Ariel's face when she seemed to be thinking, "Damned scuttle!"

When Eric realized he was starting to like Ariel, but refused to let himself like her because she wasn't the "dream girl" he wanted to marry. Then he looked back at her combing her hair with a fork, threw his instrument into the sea and looked determined as if to say, "Heck. Foget this 'dream girl.' I'm marrying Ariel!"

When Ariel tried not to cry, let out a tear, and then sat down on the dock very calmly, accepting the fact that Eric wanted to marry someone else and not her...then getting up with a determined look and diving into the water as soon as she learned that Eric was in danger of marrying the seawitch.

My DVD arrived today, along with the fun bonuses of Disney Shopping's website.

It felt so good to watch it again! Even though now I'm a little homesick...

Does anyone know if The Little Mermaid was ever released on laser disc? (Random question to toss out there.)

I have to be up early tomorrow so I can't stay and talk about the movie at length now, but I'll be back to this thread!

Check out this TLM vid. It's about Ariel and her dad. I reminds you that Eric isn't the only man in her life. Wink I like the song and it's very well-timed but I don't really like the singer's voice.

The only extras my DVD player let me watch was the bad rendition of Kiss the Girl. Laughing

But that's okay. It's not so bad. I plan to watch my DVD at a friend's house. Just not anytime soon because someone else was planning to get her the DVD for her birthday and I don't want to spoil it for her, so I didn't tell her I had a copy.
