yeah i know. i am a greek/roman mythology nut. he also wanted to commit suicide because of killing his family, but he was told by the oracle at Delphi that he should overcome himself by becoming the servant of his cousin Eurystheus, king of Mycenae. Also, it wasn't completely his fault, bacuase hera went into a fit and cursed herc and caused his madness.

I don't think that this is just Disney. You see this trend in Marvel Comics and Anime. Quite often the main character has no/loses his parents. This even happened to the likes of Batman. It's a tool to give the character extra strength. Even though Aladdin had a mother in the original storyboard, the final cut had him without a mother. I think that having Aladdin being an orphan and a street rat gave him great strength. If Aladdin had a mother and he didn't use at least one wish to help out his mother then it would make him look selfish.

Gah... that's one cliche that I try to break when I write characters. Why can't a character come from a fairly normal family for once AND be pretty spunky? It does happen. I have two loving parents and I can be just as annoying and smart-mouthed as any Disney 'princess.' Very Happy

Tarzan had both his parents...of course they were gorillas since the real ones were killed...and then Kerchak died because of a gun shot wound so now he doesn't have a father....you know I was going somewhere with this, but now I don't remember Laughing
