I forget which movie it was, but one of the characters said that he was watching The Little Mermaid and that he though that she was hot. If you look at Ariel, she is half fish, half woman. All she is pretty much wearing is 2 clam shells to cover her breasts. A few movies later, they pretty much do it again. First you have the hero, Aladdin. He is drawn with good looks, athletic, and always runs around with his shirt open showing off his Rock-Hard Abadabas. Then you have Jasmine. She is drawn slim, attractive and wearing Homie Pants and pretty much only a bra. And look at Genie... umm... he has no shirt on... Yeah. If this was anything other than Disney, you would have parent groups screaming bloody murder. And I'm sure that normal people weren’t wearing these types of clothes back then. So my question is, why did Disney draw Aladdin and Jasmine they way they did? Was it because Sex sells and they wanted to give the parents something to look at while the kids were watching the movie? Or was it something as simple as wanting to draw them to match the time period (The 90's)?
So what do you guys think, are they too sexy? _________________ "Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead.

I don't think just Disney does that. Dreamworks had a few sexy animated bodies.
Also I think what people are getting at are that those animated movies are setting high standards for body image for younger children. Feh, as if children are entirely swayed by what they only see. _________________

I think that it might have been done to make the characters more interesting. Especially with Jasmine/Aladdin. I mean, the outfits and stuff that they wear affect what we think about them. (like sexy...) We wouldn't like Aladdin as much if he was wearing a wrapped turban and clothes covering most of his body. (Heck, he would still be hot, but not AS hot)Same thing with Jasmine.
So yes, clothing was probably considered, but it probably wasn't that big of something. It's that way with most of Mark's girls. They have the same hair and show a little breast. Maybe it's just him.
Anyway, no, I don't think it's too adult. _________________ "You're already writing the music into the songs and the music out of the songs and writing the music within the songs for dialogue and little bits of music for scenes. Why don't you write the score?"

Fer pete's sakes... that's not a shirt, that's a vest! And the style of that particular vest is supposed to be open. _________________

Well, you know what they say... Fez and vest combos were much too third century. Couldn't resist... _________________ "You're already writing the music into the songs and the music out of the songs and writing the music within the songs for dialogue and little bits of music for scenes. Then you have to explain his theory for Mulan and Belle to me
As for the subject at hand, I guess they wanted to play on the exoticness and beauty of the Arabian culture. You've got a natural "sexiness that is built in. Usually bellydancers are one of the first images that comes to mind when talking about "beautiful Arabian women" and Jasmine's appearel isn't far from that.
As for Aladdin, him having a tangiable shirt for all those years may or may not seem logical. Then again, a lot of things aren't logical in this movie Also, it's hot as hell in Agrabah and I wouldn't want to wear all that much clothing that covered me up either.
And Ariel--heh, doesn't bother me. I wouldn't have believed a mermaid in a t-shirt or tank top. And hey, the mermaids in Peter Pan had their hair covering their chest so it's something. |

I believe that Ariel/Jasmine were meant to be drawn to be sexy. They have a body any girl would kill to have, even though they are only 15-16.
Aladdin is just good looking, plain and simple. Now, what about Tarzan. My god, the man only had on a loin cloth... can't get skimpier than that. But, Jane was a bit more conservative. But she was still pretty...
Oh god, I'm going off topic.
Yes, I do believe that Jasmine was meant to be beautiful and sexy and so was Aladdin because the animators knew that the movie would be good for kids/teens/adults all alike. _________________ MysticMeg's Stories on THE LIBRARY OF AGRABAH!!!

originally mermaids had no clothing or covering of any kind, and they were evil. there was nothing keeping them from luring humans into the depths of the sea to be drowned. they would use their sexuality and their singing to kill them. _________________ I loveses my Ger-bear! (me and Ger-bear>>)
