Oh, no question. The features were fantastic.
I think after the craptacularness of the Lion King platnum, people would have revolted had it not been _________________

That's probably because Aladdin was such a revolutionary film when it debuted. |
Well, if that was the case, Lion King's would have been a hell of a lot better. That DVD just seemed...incomplete _________________

Why was LION KING more revolutionary than Aladdin? |
I never said that it was; I was looking more toward Lion King's general popularity than anything else. I don't think Aladdin's "revolutionary" status had anything to do with it's DVD. The Lion King DVD deserved better.
And to throw something different out there, our sequels got screwed in comparision to the Lion King ones. We weren't even given the dignity of seperate releases. _________________

Objectively, RoJ did sell pretty well when it was originally released.
Then again, it was also the first one, which probably negates my entire point.
I just wanted KOT to have the glory of it's own release. It deserved it. Maybe if it would have had its own release, Sa'luk would have gotten in the commerical! *Cough* _________________

Which is why I said it negated my point...
I don't think RoJ would have sold THAT badly. I mean, it's really no worse than Simba's Pride, which got it's own DVD release.
(Yes, I know Simba's Pride sold a lot better originally)
I honestly don't think KOT would sell that much better. _________________

I think KOT would sell alot better because it has to do w/ romance *wedding* and action... and a new enemy. I believe that ROJ sold just because everyone was expecting an Aladdin hit... which it obviously wasn't. And now that people knew that, they wouldn't want it on DVD.
I personally think plotwhise KOT is better than Simba's Pride, but animation whise... it's iffy. _________________ MysticMeg's Stories on THE LIBRARY OF AGRABAH!!!

Well, it's not like KOT got shining reviews either. Besides, the people buying the re-released sequels probably fit into one of two groups:
(1) Fans of the sequel already, not seeing it for the first time, and/or buying it for the nostalgia trip.
(2) Parents trying to shut their kids up, who might buy anything if desperate enough.
And besides, I doubt a lot of people buying the KOT VHS in 1996 were all that worried about the plot. "Oooooh, shiny Aladdin movie!" And I really don't think that "Starring Robin Williams" bit hurt either. And it really pains me to say that (because there's no way in hell that should have been on there when he's in about a half hours worth of an 86 minute movie) _________________

*kicks ROJ VHS under bed that she got just because of that*
And that Genie thing is exactly what I was talking about in the rant thread. He (and his voice actors) get a lot of credit simply because of who they are, but when you really look at on screen time..he isn't there that much. |
