And again...

We've come to the same conclusion. There are many different ways a name can be described as.

Either way, no one is right, and no one is wrong. It's all in perspective.

I've found Sadira. According to this page, it means "ostrich returning from water" in Arabic.

Never thought ostriches coming back from water were so important as to need their own noun for it. o_0

That we've seen.

It's never explained where Sadira came from... maybe she came from a place w/ water.

Maybe they were flipping through a name book and thought it looked cool. Laughing

Personally, I think they plucked it from the name book because it looked a bit like "seduce" and sounded right. Very Happy

Ahmed - Arabic for "most highly adored"

Aladdin is a real name; I know someone named Ala Adin. He changed his name to "Alex" when he moved to America. (You want ironic? His wife's name is "Jasmine." I think Aladdin means "little hero," but I can't remember.

Jasmine... duh... Jasmine is a flower. There are also many variations of Jasmine that have semi different meanings like "olive plant" etc.

For Cassim, all I could find was:
___Casimir, which is Slavic for "peacemaker."
___Kasim, which is African for "Controller of anger."

Is there another characther named Ahmed? Or do you mean like Jasmine's suitor who threw Aladdin in the mud? I can't imagine anyone adoring him. Well, maybe his mother, who was probably just as snobby as he was. Hmm, if so, they probably didn't look up the meaning of the name, to see how it would fit the character.

A real Aladdin and Jasmine? That is ironic.

A very beatiful flower, too. They smell very nice. We have quite a few of them right outside my front door. They smell nice, you put their scent on love letters.

Well, I don't think Cassim looked like he controlled his anger very well, or made peace. I found a site that that said Cassim meant "one who divides goods among his people". Well, he did divide among the forty thieves. Even against Iago's advice, he still wouldn't cut his men out of a deal.

The prince at the beginning of the movie that Jasmine rejects is "Achmed" not "Ahmed".

Just a popular Arabic name that is thrown around in different fanfictions. I do not believe there was any characters by that name in the Aladdin storyline.

Actually, "Ahmed" and "Achmed" are the same name, "Achmed" being a corruption. (The H is aspirated, making it similar to the CH in 'loch.')

So, then if that's so, then I'm at a loss to know why they gave him a name that doesn't go with this personality.

Probably it summons up thoughts of the first animated film, "The Adventure of Prince Achmed". Also, it's works for Prince Achmed as, I don't now, irony.

*pauses*

Am I even on the right topic?
