I know that Agrabah is a fictional city in a story. If this city is real then it would be in Arabia. Right? I don't know the boundaries of Arabia back in
What Syera would say, " Medieval or ancient 7th century times". There are plenty of empires that build and diminished to the ground. Ancient City's renamed, borders built, possibilities that cities was never actually near the mainland. For example the Greek empire invaded the land of Egypt and there's Alexandria. I think it was named Alexander the great.
Greece is nowhere close to it. They say that Atlantis is somewhere in the Mediterreanan sea but sources say that Atlantis could be Cuba. I watched it on a discovery channel while the movie "Atlantis" was coming out.

Knowing me such as a dork that I am. I thought that Agra, India. Would be "Agra"bah. I may get this wrong but I heard that the animators went there to draw the architechure of the buildings and the designs for the movie. Agra is the place where they had the Taj Mahal. How it's designed could be an inspiration for the Sultan's palace configurations. All the peacocks , the fountains and the elephants. Since elephants in India is considered a trasportation or a sacred animal. I read the story about the Taj Mahal and the inspirations on why it's built. It was a story about a great king who is madly in love with his beautiful wife. Nothing could compare to her beauty. So when she died of illness. He built the Taj Mahal for her. It complimented her beauty and everything that she stood for. Mahal is my other language means love.

Another funny conjunctions is Morroco, Africa. It's so funny. Because I read in a thread that the characters of Aladdin were out signing autographs in a Morrocco restaurant in Epcot. What made it more interesting is that I was going through the pin collection book at work and notice a Morrocco pin limited edition. And guess who's on the pin? ABU! That's just made things confusing. But anyways, If you look at the surroundings of Agrabah and Morroco. It's pretty much the same.
Architechure, camels, customs. I notice that it's by the sea. Remember after the first kiss of Aladdin and Jasmine. You see the sea behind him. As he falls backwards. Could be the Dead Sea, Mediterreanan sea, or the Atlantic Ocean? Why would they sell fish in the marketplace? If the city is at the middle of the desert then wouldn't the fish dry or stink or be rotten? I don't recall seeing the sea by the city in the animated series. Remember they had to travel by carpet to get by the beach? Which in the first movie there is.

So Is there a Sea or is there not a sea? What are your theories on where Agrabah could be? Please embellish me! Amuse me! Inform me! Teach me!

I'm thinking it's not on the sea but it is very close. The guards threw Prince Ali into the sea so it can't be that far away, and I don't think we've ever seen a port that was specified as being in Agrabah. My theory is that they can't build the city too close to the ocean because then they couldn't get fresh water from wells, so all the trading ships come from a nearby port town (Para-Moor, maybe?) and then everything is transported to Agrabah by camel.

My theory about where Agrabah is is that it's in Yemen, near where Aden is today. It's kind of extensive so I'll come back and post that later. Laughing

I've tried to do the same with Durmstrang. We don't even know what country it is in. However, for Agrabah, I guess our only clue is the sea like Calluna said. Oh, no, it couldn't be too far from China. In the first movie, they were watching fireworks, and there was one of those long snakes they use to celebrate Chinese New Year.

But that was right after A Whole New World, so I really doubt they were back in Agrabah. That looked a whole lot like the Forbidden City in China.

Well, it should be close, shouldn't it? I mean to get there and back in one night. Even by flying.

But they also went to Greece and Egypt, which are very far away from China. Wink Carpet is just insanely fast, I think. Laughing

They have to be near the ocean. How would fish be that fresh? If it's caught by boat and traveled by camel? Wouldn't it be smelly, rotten, and not good?
Fresh water can be transported but have you ever thought of underground rivers? People drill into the ground and build wells. If any chance if Agrabah has rain.

The vendor shows a fish to Jasmine. " FRESH FISH! We catch em! You buy them!"

It says on Wikipedia.org:

"Aladdin (a corruption of the Arabic name Alauddin/Ala-ed-din, Arabic: علاء الدين, Chinese: 阿拉丁) is one of the tales from 1001 Nights and one of the most famous in Western culture.

It concerns a young man named Aladdin living in China, who is recruited by a sorcerer to retrieve a wonderful oil lamp from a booby-trapped magic cave. After the sorcerer attempts to double-cross him, Aladdin keeps the lamp for himself, and discovers that it contains two evil genii that are bound to do the bidding of the person holding the lamp. With the aid of the genii, Aladdin becomes rich and powerful and marries a princess. The sorcerer returns and is able to get his hands on Aladdin's lamp (by tricking his wife, who is unaware of the lamp's importance), but Aladdin wins out in the end."

The story, originally in Arabic, is actually set in China so that's where Agrabah must be.

Nah, they make a pretty big distinction between "China" and "Agrabah" in the series.

And in one ep they introduced "fireworks from the east" so Agrabah is west in relation to the oriental Asia.

Please teach me. Embellish the fact. Research it. I want to know more about it. It has to be a city with history. not a suburb of the city.
