Wasn't she the royal melon inspector at some point? She had a good thing going there but she decided to be an all powerful witch isntead. A melon inspector has great honor! Laughing

Yeah, that was her and Aladdin's story to Rasoul, but then Jasmine ruined it by saying "Fruit inspector? Agrabah doesn't have a fruit inspector" Laughing

Well, maybe Rasoul can convince them to make that post and give it to Sadira. She can be keeping an eye on things, while under cover.

Or Rasoul can use her for a she-rug. Laughing

Wow, so many topics that interest me in this thread; no wonder my absence was so conspicuous. Laughing

I was just wondering if anyone noticed how when Saluk said Aladdin must die, he used that gesture you sometimes see, like, well, you saw how he pointed at Aladdin, and was like, "He has seen too much. He must die. They must all die." It seemed to me very...I don't know, politician-like, or something.

I never thought of that line in that context, but he does seem a lot like a politician, doesn't he? That whole scene is about him trying to show he's a better leader than Cassim is. And I could tell that the French version of "Are You in or Out" uses a lot of political language in it (I don't speak French but from what I could understand it sounded more like Sa'luk was convincing the thieves to vote for him than to join his gang Laughing ). And his villainy-style reminds me of no one else so much as Jafar, who was a politician himself. Hmmm, I think we're on to something... Twisted Evil

A lot of people keep saying they've noticed this but I never have, which is strange since I'm, like, High Overlord of the Rasoul Fans or something. Laughing So what's everyone seeing that I missed? I haven't got anything more specific than "well, he's jealous of Aladdin" so far, and he has plenty of other reasons not to like Aladdin. Laughing

or ever weirder, a thing for Aladdin? Shocked

I did bring that topic up once at the Pub, but it was in the context of saying that there was about as much subtext and the same kind (rival!slash) for Aladdin/Rasoul as there is for Aladdin/Mozenrath (if not more), but A/M is pretty much all you see, and I chalked that up to the fact that they're both good looking. Rolling Eyes Not that I'm crazy about either one, mind; if you want to break up Aladdin/Jasmine then you've got some 'splaining to do in your plot. Laughing

Being that the group is away from general society, the law needs to be defended by somebody. And if Cassim's going to get all sentimental, Sa'luk will do it. Someone has to be authoritative.

Hmmmm... strict constructionist, wants to go back to the "good old days", calls the other side "weak"... nope, doesn't remind me of any policians I know. Wink

I always thought he had a crush on her during that brief period when he thought she was the fruit inspector. Laughing

But we all saw her standing next to Murk at the wedding and we all know what that means. Wink (J/K, of course. Yuck. Razz )

Yeah, I guess so. The song is more like, pick me, or something, 'a fearless leader', 'success is guaranteed', 'I'm the prince of generosity'. A campaign speech, I guess.

That 'fearless leader' role would be Aladdin Laughing

Rather, the leader with the nine lives. Well, Saluk must have plenty of lives, too. He did survive falling off a cliff. He only didn't survive being turned into gold. Or maybe he's still alive, just trapped.

Well, in my fic-world, "I'm a survivor" is sort of his catchphrase. Laughing

I've always taken the 'prince of generosity' line as though he's mocking Cassim's attempts to be just that.

And it's of course a campaign speech, being that the man is trying to take over for someone who's extremely popular. But I think the actions during the song are more important that the lyrics themselves, to a degree. He's not only saying it, but he's also beating the crap out of them to show he can do it. That's how he gets the respect, not the words coming out of his mouth.

Hey, some people think the only good leader is a dead leader. Figures. I mean, I just can't see it nowadays. President Saluk. Laughing
