I'm sure this has been done to death, but I'm curious about what y'all think. Suppose the Disney movies we love were made in different time periods. Like, suppose, instead of being the last official Disney Princess, Jasmine was the first. Or, what if instead of doing The Little Mermaid in 1989, they'd done it earlier and Snow White was a newer Disney Princess. What if the animated Peter Pan had been made today? Or, what if Howard Ashman hadn't died? (Those three came up with some good shit.)
Or, is there anything else you can think of? I know, realistically, things happen for a reason, in life, and in the birth of movies, but let's use our imaginations here and guess what might have happened if different movies were created at different times, or, taking it a bit further...what if certain movies hadn't been created at all? What do y'all think?

. Sooo much would change with characterization and dynamics to an extent of some characters in some movies.

The overall image of Disney might change, too. Not anything bad, but then you'd have stuff like more Ashman/Menken songs that we know and love, and stuff like that.

If certain movies weren't made...I don't know.

If Cinderella hadn't been made...
Good: Cinderella II wouldn't have been made.
Bad: We wouldn't have "Bippedy boppity boo."
Bad: Cinderfella might not have been made.
The daughter of my mother's best friend wouldn't have started singing "Sing, Sweet Nightengale" when asked to clean up the floor.

They wouldn't play "Under The Sea" in restaurants.
Good: Fewer six-year-old girls would have been obsessed with mermaids.
Good: The Palace Plumbing wouldn't have caused a scandal.
Bad: We wouldn't have Ursula.

If Beauty and the Beast hadn't been made...
Bad: I wouldn't have found Robby Benson.
Bad: I wouldn't have learned so quickly to appreciate really fuzzy guys.
Good: I wouldn't randomly start singing Gaston's song.
Good: Small children wouldn't have had to learn was a jerk was so early.

If Bambi hadn't been made...
Good: Parents would not continually tell their children "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."
Bad: Parents wouldn't have a handy quote to express that particular lesson.
Bad: Nobody would know what to call "Bambi eyes."
I wouldn't have named one of our cats "Flower." (I miss that cat.)
Good: Kids wouldn't have seen hunters portrayed only as bad guys.

If The Fox and the Hound hadn't been made...
Good: Small children wouldn't have seen hunters portrayed only as bad guys.
I would have learned the expression "barge in" someplace else.
Good: Nobody would have seen the horrible connection between "toddler" and the name "Todd." (Useless trivia: "Todd" means "fox".)

If Aladdin hadn't been made...
Bad: This site wouldn't exist.
Bad: Robin Williams wouldn't have gotten to be Genie.
Bad: People wouldn't have all those wonderful Jafar quotes to use all the time.

Just a few thoughts.

Wow, just that one about what if Howard hadn't died would make such a huge difference if only to Aladdin. Because Aladdin was kind of his baby - he wrote the first script, it was his idea to do it - and he was very, very forceful about things have to be done a certain way. I really hate to say this, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the whole "Black Friday" incident took place so soon after his death. If Howard was still alive Aladdin would be a totally different movie.

I wonder what Beauty and the Beast would have been had it been made around World War II, when Walt got the idea of doing it.

I also wonder what things would have been like had Jeffrey not pissed Robin off. Can you imagine the series with Robin instead of Dan? It probably would have just been a series about Genie's adventures around the world. Laughing

Yeah, I think he was the prince of thieves or something. He might have been with the 40 thieves, and something about a...sa'lock? Laughing

I really can't remember. I was just too happy knowing "the real" Genie was back!!1one!

Oh yeah, cause you know, that whole movie was about him. That Sa'lock person was just a filler. I mean, look at how he was drawn! There's coloring outside the lines for heaven's sake! It's obvious that's where Genie was and they decided at the last minute to add Sa'lock. Then they got Robin back as Genie and didn't have enough time to add all those scenes back! *EMOTEAR*

True. I don't think the six of us who would care are gonna be able to stop the hoards of fans that will come after...damn Laughing

Yeah, they should have dumped that bozo. I mean, they couldn't even decide what race he was. He's obviously useless. And that Cazizzle guy? OMG what a chump. They wasted precious Genie time on characterization of all things. Who needs a compelling character when Robin can make a funny?
