|
|
I don't know what happened to our original haunted DL thread but someone linked this photo over at VF. It was apparently taken at DisneyWORLD's haunted mansion which may or may not be accurate.
The original story from what I know is that a little boy had died due to an illness and the mother asked Disneyland if she could spread his ashes in the haunted mansion because it was his favorite ride. Obviously DL said no due to sanitary reasons. Well she did it anyways and since then people have claimed to see a little boy by the exit of the ride.
The photo at first was a little unnerving to me but after getting used to it and looking it over it's really hard to say what exactly it is. I definatly see a childs face with no real body attatched to it aside from a little speck under it's chin. Plus this seemed like it was either in the area where you pass multiple doors with things banging on the other side of it or at the unloading zone and once the safty bars down theres no real way to sit up or move.... but the camera is so blurry as it is it makes it difficult to find any other way to tell if it was doctored or if anything else in the mansion is causing a disturbance to make it seem like theres just a head there. Trust me I'm looking for a gazillion ways to debunk this thing _________________

Seeing as how the photo is near-black anyway, there're a gazillion things you could do to make it look haunted. (It's easier to fill in areas with black than trying to fill in lit objects.)
As for that 'speck' - if someone in a dark room wore something dark over something light with just a little bit of the light part showing, you'd have an effect like that. Couple it with the fact that the picture is so dark already, and you'd have a disembodied look going on.
Another thing - ghost aside, that photo looks horrible. With the exception of some overhead lights and a few reflections, it's dark. With the exception of an amateur photographer who didn't know what he/she was doing, who would take a picture like that, anyway? If the photographer's motive is unclear or questionable, that makes it a good candidate for being faked.
You might find this page interesting, by the way...

The photo does seem a bit fishy to me I don't deney that nor have I ever thought for one moment that the picture was real. But y'know Syera, I don't know what the photographers motive was either. As for the quality of the photograph, thats just how it is. It's extreamly dark in the mansion and it makes it pretty impossible to shoot photos with a typical digital camera or regular throw away camera. I know what I'm doing when i comes to shooting photos but mine still come out like that on the mansion. It's not just because people are amatures and don't know what they're doing.
And I know how to analyze photos with the suposed paranormal activity on them _________________

Sorry... I tend get a bit overexcited when analyzing things and get caught up in the moment when I'm explaining them.
Just another thought... is it possible that it's not a boy at all, but perhaps a Disney World employee? If this were the case, perhaps the photographer never saw him because he/she was paying attention to something else and the person ducked out of the way before the photographer had time to see him... but not before the camera caught him. _________________

Don't think so, the cast members are supposed to stay in the unloading zone to make sure the guests get off the ride safely. Also the buggies are constantly moving. They never stop unless it's to let a disabled person on. There wouldn't have been any time for a cm to get onto a moving buggie and look over _________________

I was thinking more along the lines of a park techie.
Come to think of it, is it possible the photo was taken by a techie during off-hours? _________________

I don't know Syera I don't know. Depite my Disneyland geekiness I don't know everything on the parks. And I won't till I work there next year. As far as I know, no, I don't think it's possible. _________________

Here's my attempt at recreating the effect.
I took it last night close to 11:00 PM. The only sources of light came from the porch light and the house - and it was quite dim where I stood near the swingset.
I wore an ankle-length black hoodie over my clothing, which made me blend in with the background nicely. I also converted the photo to grayscale and did some adjusting with the brightness and contrast.
My camera was set to the following:
Aperture: 2.8
Exposure Time: 1/2 Second
ISO: 400
Flash: Off
So, my current opinion on the 'Haunted Mansion' photo is that a bored ride techie or two could have faked a ghost photo during maintenence without too much difficulty.
Also, do you have any information on when this photo was taken? _________________

No I don't and it prolly wasn't a technician CM there. Though good recreation.
As for personal experiences I do sometimes get an uncomfortable feeling in certain areas of the mansion and this ride is one that while would scare me shitless when I was a kid doesn't now. One was pretty bad today where I just had to cover my ears and close my eyes to make me feel better. _________________

Why did I read that "scared me shirtless" as a child? Oh yes, that's right--I have a terrible brain |

Just because I'm curious and like to be thorough when analyzing a situation... why not?

I must say, your personal experience interests me. A lot. Now, don't get me wrong here - I'm not trying to discount it or anything, but rather I'm trying to rule out the ordinary.
Is it possible that your seeing the photo colored your experience a bit? Just believing or thinking that maybe something is, shall we say, out of the ordinary can cause someone to experience a variety of reactions.

Because the supposed apparition doesn't look like an adult imo
No, There are certain parts of the mansion that have always made me feel this way. Especially the attic for some reason. And the feelings would differ from one trip to the next, yesterday for example it was pretty bad when we went on right in the morning, later it lifted a little and i was fine the whole time. The final time when we went on right, and I mean right before closing hour and I did get a little uncomfortable in the attic and unloading zone again but it wasn't enough to just make me outright creeped out.
I'm not saying it had to do with the photo that very well could have enhanced the feeling like you said but I knew from the get go before the photo was found (and that was from when i was about 12) that there was supposed paranormal activity in the mansion. And in other parts of Disneyland for that matter.
And off the record I have gotten the same feeling in the mansion as I do my own house at times when I'm up reeeaaaallly late. It drives me nuts but I'm pretty used to it now _________________

I'm inclined to think that someone edited this picture because I've heard this same story about this little boy with some saying that this story played out at Disneyland's Mansion and others at WDW's Haunted Mansion.
The Mansion's one of my favorites; I would LOVE to ride the updated Disneyland version, and I adore WDW's, even if I think it's due for a refurbishment pretty soon. The pop-up ghosts still give me the heebie jeebies...it's really obvious where they are, but when they pop up, I still jump! I love that ride but I get creeped out when it stops in the graveyard scene.
When we were in WDW last week, I was riding with my brothers and it stopped in the ballroom. That was sweet!
And I'm glad I'm not the only one who starts feeling a little jittery awake in her own house late at night. |

Hm... I can't recall getting jittery sleeping anywhere as of late... and I've definitely slept in houses/rooms where at least one person died.
On a sidenote - one of my grandfathers spent his last days here. Shortly after his death I noticed one of the toilets making all manner of odd howlings when flushed. That left me unnerved for awhile. Especially since it sounded a bit like him. The toilet still yowls, but I've gotten used to it. _________________
