I am a new member, but I have an interesting post. Is it just me, or does anyone get a feeling of brother and sister relations between the male and female villains? Examples: Captain Hook and the Queen of Hearts, Jafar and Maleficent, Hades and Ursula, Judge Claude Frollo and Lady Tremaine. Does anyone else agree, or can anyone think of anymore?

I can see why you would think that, especially some of the newer characters (Jafar, Frollo, etc.) had some their look inspired by previous characters. Animator Andreas Deja acknowledged the similiarities between Jafar and Maleficent in one of the "Aladdin" commentaries.

You're right that there are lots of similarities, but I think that generally Disney likes to try and keep each character's "world" separate (this is why Roy E. Disney HATES the Disney Princess brand), so I wouldn't be inclined to believe that any characters from different film "worlds" would be related. Now, with reference to Kingdom Hearts footage that I have seen, if the characters ARE put together in the same world, Jafar and Maleficent need to be an item. Let AladdinsGenie go into that one, though; she's funnier than me.

I agree with Nez that sometimes it is obvious to see how some of the design elements of characters are similar between different movies...the fact that Andreas Deja mentioned studying Maleficent while designing Jafar, and the fact that Frollo and Jafar share many traits (beady eyes, long, thin faces, spidery fingers, deep voices, long robes).

Animators have been consistently inspired by past work, but this is a matter of design and conveying personalities, not an implication that they were designed to be 'related' in the traditional sense.

Him too, huh? Glad I'm not the only one. *Is driven kerbonkers by the insane cross-overness*

The way I see it, animators and designers tend to stick to a particular style when drawing villains, so some physical similarities are bound to happen. (And speaking of similarities, I'm not the only one who noticed Syndrome/Hades, was I? Razz)

Oooh, look - Queen Metallia here looks like Hades! They must be related!

There is footage of Jafar and Maleficent dating at Walt Disney World? Is there any other footage of other villains dating? I would love to see who all the other male and female villains are dating.

Next time, just delete 'em. The option appears next to the Edit button - it's the yellow X.

They're not *exactly* dating according to Disney canon, but it's more like implied subtext. I just like to pretend they really are Laughing. They're always together and trying to out top each other in villain darkness talk Laughing. I think they went on a date on the House of Mouse, but don't quote me on that.

Yes, Jafar and Maleficent went on a date in a "House of Mouse" episode: "Max's Embarrassing Date", of where Mickey pointed out that they were on a date. In another episode of the series, "Mickey vs. Shelby", Jafar and Maleficent are seen sitting alone at a table. However; Maleficent was seen on other dates in the "House of Mouse" franchise: once with Chernabog in "Mickey's House of Villains", once with Hades in the episode: "Halloween with Hades", and in the "Halloween with Hades" episode, there is a scene of where Maleficent is seen sitting at a table and Captain Hook comes over to her table, bows down on one knee, plays with his mustache with his sword, and winks at her, but Maleficent bops him over the head with her staff, and he disappears in a puff of smoke.

Queen Grimhilde, the evil queen from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", was seen with a male companion on a "House of Mouse" episode (I forgot which one), but she was seen with the Beast in his human form as a prince. In the "House of Mouse" episode, "Max's Embarrassing Date", Mickey said that Cruella De Vil and the Beast (in his animal form) were on a date, but the Beast is not a villain.

Captain Hook, however; showed a romantic interest in her. In the DVD intro of "Mickey's House of Villains", he swaps Mickey's picture with his, Donald's with Ursula's, Pluto's with Hades', and last but not least, Queen Grimhilde with Minnie's (Mickey's romantic interest). He was never seen with her, but in the Disney comics (of which I never read), he paired up with the Witch (Queen Grimhilde's alter-ego) to battle the "good" characters with other villains: Pete, Zeke Wolf (the Big Bad Wolf), the Beagle Boys, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear. However; also in the comics, I read that Madame Mim was in love with Captain Hook, but I do not know if he was in love with her.

These are the only villains and villainesses who I know who went on dates in the Disney franchise, but ones that I think are perfect for each other are:

Jafar and Maleficent

Hades and Ursula

Judge Claude Frollo and Lady Tremaine

Percival C. McLeach and Madame Medusa (others say Sykes from "Oliver & Company", but I like this pair more)

Destane (the sorcerer from the Disney's "Aladdin" series) and Yzma

Clayton and Cruella De Vil (I can also see her with Sykes, Percival C. McLeach, Amos Slade, Gaston, and Captain Hook)

Stromboli and the Queen of Hearts (I can also see her with Captain Hook, Ratcliffe, or Gaston)

Captain Hook and Queen Grimhilde (many other Disney fans pair her up with Gaston, but Gaston is not regal, not as old, and if he slayed the Beast and inhabited the castle, he would have been a prince not a king)

I am hoping someday there will be a new Disney full-length animated feature with a villainess as old as Snow White, Belle, and the other princesses, who is vain but maybe or maybe not regal. She would be perfect for Gaston.

Don't ask me why, but Rodney McKay waffled across my mind when you said that.

...Not saying he's bad people; I can just somehow see him flirting with Maleficent or something.

Hades and Ursula TOGETHER? That's... like... INCEST! *shudder*

(Seriously, I always thought they looked like they were related. It's kinda funny that way.)

I think Ursula would go better with Barbossa. Hades would be paired with... um... me. Yeah. Me. Right. In another universe. Maybe. Actually, I think he'd go better with some gorgeous Meg-like babe. Maybe the queen in Snow White -- yeah, somehow I think they deserve each other.

Captain Hook should be... uh, taken out and shot, then replaced by Dustin Hoffman. Who gets put with, again, me.

I think I decided that Gaston and Lady Trumaine would make a good pair, too. Then there was Scar and Maleficent, but I think she might just get tired and kill him.

I know Sa'luk doesn't get a lot of credit as a Disney villain, but he would be very interesting against Maleficent.

My thoughts, in a nutshell. I ramble a lot.

I think Ursula and Davey Jones would do better with each other, myself.

Where the frell do you keep getting Lady Trumaine? It's TRE-maine! The letter U in French is pronounced like a long E with your lips rounded.

Tremaine/Gaston is... ugh. She's way too old for him.

I do not know if Sa'luk is a Disney villain, because I never heard of him, but from the name I can tell he is an anime character. I hold nothing against Anime, I do like Unico 1, 2, and Spirited Away after all, but I do not think anime villains and Disney villains would go together. If they did, maybe Sopphenrath could be every Disney villainess' boyfriend.

If Scar would be placed with Maleficent, then I think Prince John should go with Ursula, and Shere Khan should be placed with Queen Grimhilde. However; I think Prince John and the Queen of Hearts would make a better pair.

I can not see Gaston and Lady Tremaine together at any cost, Gaston would rather be fine with Cruella De Vil (although some do not like this pair), Yzma, (although she may be too old) or the Queen of Hearts (this is an iffy pair). Queen Grimhilde is just too old for him. If she should not be placed with Captain Hook, maybe she can be placed with Shan-Yu or the Horned King, but I like the pairing with Captain Hook, because of its flavor.

If Hades and Ursula together is like incest, then maybe Hades should be placed with Maleficent, and Ursula should be placed with Jafar.

Davy Jones and Barbossa are not cartoon villains.

In my opinion, the villain pairings I made are like incest, so it should be like this:

Jafar and Ursula
Hades and Maleficent
Gaston and Yzma
Percival C. McLeach and Cruella De Vil
Sykes and Madame Medusa
Judge Claude Frollo and Queen Grimhilde
Captain Hook and Lady Tremaine
Edgar the Butler and the Queen of Hearts
