Didn't we have a thread like this back in the pub, Heather?
I know I went through most the puns of the titles in the episode names... |

I'm pretty sure this topic was there.
More puns:
- Amin Damoolah (I'm in the moolah)
- Al Gebraic (Algebriac)
- Wadi Yadouin (What are you doing)
And so, so, so many more. _________________

At least one of the kingdoms is a pun, too:

The only one I recognize is Japanese, and when I switch over to the image search I keep seeing the same anime character. Maybe her name is Destane? (be warned if you want to check, there's some hentai mixed in...)
The only other thing I can think of is from "destiny", or after Demona's "human name" on Gargoles, Dominique Destine. |

Well, I've seen it used as a name for a few people who have some kind of Arabic or Muslim origin, but... *sigh* I haven't been able to trace it any farther. No name sites or anything. _________________

Well, Hamed means thankful and praising. Jasmine is, of course, the name of a flower.
A name site I always use is behindthename.com It's pretty good. |

Omar - Arabic for "Ultimate devotee"... very appropriate
Ahmed - Arabic for "most highly adored"
I didn't find "Aziz", but I did find the following:
___Aziza - Egyptian for "Precious"
___Azize - Swahili for "Highly valued"
___Azizi - African for "Precious one"
Abu - African for "Father"... **snickers**
___ancient Egyptian name for Elephantine Island at Aswan
Salene (for Saleen) - French for "Dignified one".. Isn't it also a medicine? I already asked this, but I already forgot.
Yanni (for Yani) - Hebrew for "Gift of God"
Xerxes - If you don't have a sick mind, you will automatically think of Xerxes (aka Artaxerxes I believe) the Persian ruler, husband to Queen Esther. The name "Xerxes" is Persian for "King, ruler."
Captain Al-Butross... Duh. Captain Albatras.
Destane always struck me as a take-off of "Destiny"
Arbututs - which villain was this? I forget. When I know maybe I can make my theory.
Aladdin is a real name; I know someone named Ala Adin. He changed his name to "Alex" when he moved to America. (You want ironic? His wife's name is "Jasmine." I think Aladdin means "little hero," but I can't remember.
Jasmine... duh... Jasmine is a flower. There are also many variations of Jasmine that have semi different meanings like "olive plant" etc.
Jafar - I read once in a Baby Names book that this name means "little river," but his name isn't on the Baby Names website. I'm used to the ALaddin's villain's name being Rasheed, which means "to guide or advise."
Iago - Latin for "Supplanter." To supplant is to trick, so I think the name is appropriate. Also, Iago is a character in Shakespeare's Othello.
Genie - A supernatural creature who does one's bidding when summoned.
___In the original story, the Genie is often know as the djinn, which is a variation of the word "Jinnie."
___"Jinnie": In Muslim legend, a spirit often capable of assuming human or animal form and exercising supernatural influence over people.
___"Jinni": Also spelled "Djinni" or "Djinny" n : (Islam) an invisible spirit mentioned in the Koran and believed by Muslims to inhabit the earth and influence mankind by appearing in the form of humans or animals ___The word "Jinn" is also Arabic for "demon"
___
___The word "Janna" is Arabic for "cover, conceal"
___"Genie" has female variations - Jeannie, nickname for "Jean" means "God is Gracious".
Carpet - A thick heavy covering for a floor, usually made of woven wool or synthetic fibers; a rug.
For Cassim, all I could find was:
___Casimir, which is Slavic for "peacemaker."
___Kasim, which is African for "Controller of anger."
For Sadira I found:
___Sadie - English for "Princess"
___Sagira - Egyptian "little one"
___ Samira - Arabic for "entertaining"
Sultan - A ruler of a Muslim country, especially of the former Ottoman Empire.
Rajah - A prince, chief, or ruler in India or the East Indies.
___or "Raja": Hindi name for "hope"
Fatima - Arabic for "daughter of a prophet"
Abis Mal - always struck me as "abysmal"
Oracle -
___A shrine consecrated to the worship and consultation of a prophetic deity, as that of Apollo at Delphi.
___A person, such as a priestess, through whom a deity is held to respond when consulted.
___The response given through such a medium, often in the form of an enigmatic statement or allegory.
___A person considered to be a source of wise counsel or prophetic opinions.
___An authoritative or wise statement or prediction.
___A command or revelation from God.
___In the Bible, the sanctuary of the Temple
___Latin roots lead back to the word "Oraculum," which comes from the word "Orare," which means "to speak."
Al Muddi - a terrible pun for "all muddy"
Amok Mon-Ra - Perhaps a take-off of Amun-Re ( Amon-Ra ), which is a combination of Amun and Ra worshipped in later Egyptian history. Under this name, the Theban god Amun became the national god of Egypt. Pharaohs considered themselves to be sons of Amun-Ra. Displaced during Akhenaten's rule, he was restored to full power afterwards.
___ The "Amok" part could be "amuck"
Nefir - A pun for "Never"
___ A'a-Nefer is the name for the sacred bull at Erment (Hermonthis), which was originaly dedicated to the god Mont. In time this animal played a part in the cult celebrations of other deities
MUktar - Some things I found:
___ Mukti: in Hinduism, liberation and bliss (nirvana) from the cycle of rebirth (samsara); also called mukti**Etymology: Sanskrit 'release, liberation'
___Muktuk - Whale blubber and skin, eaten as food.
___Mucker - A term of reproach for a low or vulgar labor person. Or To scrape together, as money, by mean labor or shifts.
___Mutic - Without a point or pointed process; blunt.
What I found for Mamluk:
___Mameluk: A member of a former military caste, originally composed of slaves from Turkey, that held the Egyptian throne from about 1250 until 1517 and remained powerful until 1811
___mameluco: A child born of a white father and Indian mother.
___Mammock: A shapeless piece; a fragment.
Probably more to come later! It's dinner time!! _________________

Well, Meesh, I have a bit to say about a few of those names.
"Saleen" sounds a bit like "saline." If water is saline, it contains salt.
"Arbutus" is a type of plant. Here's what Dictionary.com has to say:
Any of various broad-leaved evergreen trees or shrubs of the genus Arbutus, including the madrońa and strawberry tree, that are native chiefly to warm regions in the Americas and Europe.
The name "Aladdin" - a telescoped form of "Ala el Din" means "nobility of faith." (The L in the end of "el" is often pronounced as the first consonant sound of the next part of the name.)
The name "Jafar" means stream, rivulet, etc. 'Round here, we call 'em creeks.
The word "genie" is also said to derive from the Latin word "genius," meaning "guardian spirit."
"Cassim" means "divided." I've seen this in various name sites. _________________
