The Oracle said that it has seen everything, so does that mean that it knew how things would turn out between Aladdin and his dad? It knew what questions who would ask? What about if, like, I have no idea what it is, pick it up, and just ask to myself 'What is this?' Would it answer, like, 'I'm the Oracle' and all that? That would mean that was a waste of a question, because I asked my question.

I mean, if it's seen everything, why did it tell Aladdin that his question was his choice if it already knew what he was going to ask? Confused Why not just answer it right there?

There are two factors:

A: The Chaos Theory.
B: You could, say, put a snake in someone's bed. You'd know that they would unwittingly get into bed and get bitten. However, if you told them "I forsaw you getting bitten by a snake in your bed," (barring this person thinking you're a nutter), you'd very likely counter this prediction because they'd know about it and they'd take the precaution of removing the snake first.

That's what happened to Iago, basically. Laughing

Okay, now the long answer. Laughing The Oracle is kind of important in what I'm planning so I've given all this stuff a lot of thought. Wink

Well, firstly, if she answered the question then he wouldn't have asked it and would still be able to ask another question. It'd be a freebie, like Genie getting Al out of the Cave of Wonders. Technically she could do it, but it would be kind of unethical. Laughing

I think the Oracle was manipulating Aladdin...

Oracle: Ah, but mere questions about your past can be answered by your father...

She just kind of volunteered the information there that his father was alive. Don't tell me that wasn't intentional, because she knew Aladdin didn't know that! Shocked And as a direct result of her saying that Aladdin's question was about where his father was. He had no idea what to ask up until that point except that he vaguely wanted to know something about his past rather than his future. And then when she does answer:

Oracle: Follow the trail of the Forty Thieves. Your father is trapped within their world.

Yeah, that was a bit vague, especially considering how much she let slip before. She purposely obfuscated the truth so that he would think he was a prisoner of the thieves instead of their leader. She knew he would take it this way; if she wasn't doing this on purpose she would have worded it more clearly. Makes you wonder to what end she was doing all this... Twisted Evil

Yeah... it's right up there with that "If you immediately know the candle is fire, then the meal was cooked a long time ago" line. Razz

But honestly, what would the Oracle have to acheive? I'd ask her... but that'd be a waste of a good question, probably. *nargnarg darnvagueglowyallknowingbeings nargnarg*

I bet it gets boring, knowing everything that's gonna happen. Screwing around with your head is probably like movies for them. Laughing

She didn't seem to me like she enjoyed messing with peoples' heads... but I bet all that omnicience also teaches you how to keep your poker face. Rolling Eyes

Maybe she's just a good person and decided to play it that way because it turns out the best in the end. If he'd asked her something else he'd have never known his father was alive. If she told him he was the KoT he might have hated him right off the bat or decided not to try to find him at all. This way Al and Cassim reunite, Aladdin loses his fear of becoming a bad father himself, and the forty theives are all dead or arrested. Sounds like it all turned out pretty well. Wink

Yeah... and I personally have my suspicions about glowy, altruistic beings. Razz

But then again, she may very well be naturally good... I mean, otherwise she'd be pretty jaded from all that stuff she'd know.

What if you just TELL it? Like, say, Aladdin says 'Tell me about my father.' That's not a question.

Yeah, but she could say "no". Razz

Laughing

Aladdin: Tell me about my father
Oracle: No
Aladdin: Please?
Oracle: No, and you just asked a question so my time here is done. *disappears*
Aladdin:...#^&@! Mad

Who would get the Oracle next? Maybe you could get someone else to ask it a question for you. Like Jasmine asking whether Aladdin's father was hurt, when Aladdin had already asked his question.

When did Jasmine ask something? I know Aladdin asked when he was rambling off questions...

I know she didn't ask anything. I mean what if she was asking the question for Aladdin. It would be Aladdin's question, but she was asking it. Would it answer like that? Knowing that you were asking for someone else.
